BACKGROUND: English and French are essential components of the Canadian identity. Over time, this linguistic duality has been enriched by the contributions of numerous cultures. The second Thursday of September has been designated ‘Linguistic Duality Day’ across the Federal public service. It is a day that highlights Canada’s official languages as key elements of the public service as they are a strength that makes our institutions uniquely Canadian. The Canadian culture is made richer through the enhanced development of both our official languages.
As part of this year’s celebrations, we invite Grade 6 French Immersion and French language students to share their thoughts with us on the importance of learning a second language.
This classroom activity is sponsored in partnership by the PEI Federal Council and Canadian Parents for French PEI.
Here’s how to take part….Have your classroom students reply to “Tell us about a time when you were able to use your French and how you felt about it; for example, when travelling or meeting new people”. Please reply in French, or in French and English.
Students’ work will be displayed during Linguistic Duality Day celebrations across PEI.
Complete the registration form below for your classroom. Arrangements will be made with you to retrieve the student’s work before Wednesday September 11th 2013.
