“The Differentiated Parent Support Model: Enhancing the Involvement of Parents Who Do Not Speak the School Language”

Mary MacPhee
University of Prince Edward Island

Mary MacPhee is a parent, teacher-educator, French teacher, yoga and karate studio owner/operator, researcher, and recent PhD graduate. She draws on those diverse roles to provide education, support and leadership within the community, and the school system.

An anglo-dominant bilingual parent of two children in the French first language school system, Mary completed her doctoral thesis at UPEI on the involvement and experience of parents who do not speak the language of the school, based on non-francophone parents who have chosen a French education for their children. Mary has taught as a sessional lecturer in the French second language teacher education program at UPEI and as a French Immersion teacher. Mary is a member of the Canadian Association of Applied Linguistics (ACLA/CAAL) and Regroupement pour l’étude de l’éducation francophone en milieu minoritaire (REEFMMI) and currently hold the role of Vice President of CPF PEI.
